Love Kumar Goldy was a two-time Congress MLA from Garhshankar, son of two-time MLA Pandit Sarvan Ram, a family deeply rooted in the constituency. But in 2021, when Captain Amarinder Singh walked out of Congress, Goldy went with him. Consequently, Congress denied him the ticket in 2022 and instead fielded Amarpreet Singh Lally, who lost. Goldy, meanwhile, kept informally helping Congress from the outside and finally returned to the party in 2024, now hoping to reclaim his old position and influence. Ahead of 2027, will Congress trust field him again in Garhshankar ?

Voting

A) Goldy’s two-term record may make him Congress’s safest and most experienced bet in 2027.

B) Voters may see his exit-and-return as pure opportunism, weakening his claim to the ticket.

C) Congress may again prefer Amarpreet Singh Lally instead of revisiting old leadership.

D) In a seat dominated by AAP and SAD recently, Goldy’s comeback may be too little, too late.

ਲਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਗੋਲਡੀ ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਰਹਿ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸਰਵਣ ਰਾਮ ਵੀ ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ਇਸੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਰਹੇ, ਇਹ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ 2021 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਛੱਡੀ, ਗੋਲਡੀ ਵੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਗੋਲਡੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਏ। ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਕੜ ਮੁੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। 2027 ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਕੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਗੜ੍ਹਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਤੋਂ ਟਿਕਟ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ?
