After their dramatic 2020 split, the Akali Dal–BJP alliance could be heading towards a political reunion ahead of the 2027 Punjab elections. The old alliance had delivered three Assembly victories, but the breakup also exposed how dependent both parties were on each other’s vote bases. Since then, the Akali Dal has suffered a sharp decline in its electoral strength, while BJP has expanded its Hindu vote base but still struggles to convert that support into enough seats in Punjab. With the arithmetic looking tempting but the political chemistry still uncertain, who would actually benefit more if the two parties join hands again ?
