Darshan Singh Shivjot entered Chamkaur Sahib in 2022 as Bharatiya Janata Party’s lesser-known face, coming from a business background rather than traditional grassroots politics. But the result was harsh, with only a small vote share in a constituency shaped more by local identity, party networks, and rural connect than corporate visibility. Punjab often reminds candidates that money, profile, or brand value do not automatically become votes. Since then, Bharatiya Janata Party has spoken of expanding deeper into rural seats, making Chamkaur Sahib an interesting test case. The real question now is whether Darshan Singh Shivjot was simply a placeholder in 2022, or whether the party still sees long-term potential in him. Is he a future investment, or proof that parachute politics fails on Punjab soil ?
