With the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections approaching, the Shiromani Akali Dal is bringing back its senior leaders to rebuild a party that won just 3 of 117 seats in 2022. Prem Singh Chandumajra has returned, and Bibi Jagir Kaur is also expected to rejoin. The BJP is exploring a possible reunion of Akali factions and a renewed NDA arrangement. But the party still faces questions over sacrilege incidents, police firing cases, family control and its failure to connect with young voters. Sukhbir Singh Badal’s outreach to Gen Z may help change its image but can a reunion of familiar faces bring back public trust ? Will the return of the Akali old guard mark a real political comeback in 2027 or is the party bringing back leaders while its voters continue to move on ?

A) Veteran leaders can rebuild the party’s organisation but winning back voters will take much more than reunions.

B) A possible BJP alliance could strengthen the Akali Dal but may weaken its independent regional identity.

C) Unless the party answers for its past controversies and rebuilds public trust, familiar faces will make little difference.

D) The bigger challenge is winning over young voters who have no strong memory of the Akali Dal’s decade in power.

2027 ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। 2022 ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੂੰ 117 ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 3 ਸੀਟਾਂ ਮਿਲੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਦੂਮਾਜਰਾ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬੀਬੀ ਜਗੀਰ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਮੁੜ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਹੈ। ਭਾਰਤੀ ਜਨਤਾ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਧੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਇਕਜੁੱਟ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜਮਹੂਰੀ ਗਠਜੋੜ (NDA) ਨਾਲ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਗਠਜੋੜ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਭਾਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ, ਪੁਲਿਸ ਫਾਇਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ, ਬਾਦਲ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਦੱਬਦਬੇ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਵੋਟਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਕਾਮੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜੇਨ ਜ਼ੀ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਛਵੀ ਬਦਲਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਚਿਹਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਵੀ ਮੁੜ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ ? ਕੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ 2027 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਅਸਲ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੋਟਰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ?
