With every election approaching, the Punjab BJP suddenly seems to rediscover Punjab's deras, religious institutions and cultural symbols, while confidently declaring itself the state's only hope. Yet despite years of organisational expansion and high-profile inductions, the party continues to struggle for meaningful electoral acceptance in Punjab. This raises a bigger question: Is the BJP genuinely building a grassroots movement in Punjab, or simply conducting another election-season pilgrimage in search of votes ? Can repeated symbolism substitute for the deep political trust that Punjab's regional politics has always demanded ?
जैसे-जैसे चुनाव नज़दीक आते हैं, पंजाब भाजपा को अचानक राज्य के डेरे, धार्मिक संस्थान और सांस्कृतिक प्रतीक अधिक याद आने लगते हैं, साथ ही वह खुद को पंजाब की एकमात्र उम्मीद भी बताने लगती है। लेकिन वर्षों से संगठन विस्तार, बड़े नेताओं की एंट्री और लगातार राजनीतिक प्रयासों के बावजूद भाजपा अभी भी पंजाब में व्यापक जनस्वीकृति हासिल करने के लिए संघर्ष करती दिखाई देती है। ऐसे में बड़ा सवाल यह है: क्या भाजपा वास्तव में पंजाब में ज़मीनी राजनीतिक आधार तैयार कर रही है, या फिर हर चुनाव से पहले वोटों की तलाश में एक नई राजनीतिक यात्रा पर निकल पड़ती है ? क्या बार-बार का प्रतीकात्मक जुड़ाव उस गहरे जनविश्वास की जगह ले सकता है, जिसकी पंजाब की राजनीति हमेशा मांग करती रही है ?
