When the BJP appointed Sunil Kumar Jakhar as its Punjab President, the move was projected as a strategic breakthrough, bringing in one of Punjab's most experienced political faces to expand the party beyond its traditional support base. Today, however, Kewal Singh Dhillon heads the Punjab BJP while Jakhar appears increasingly politically redundant. This raises a larger question about the BJP's model of leadership in Punjab. Is the party truly looking to cultivate influential regional leaders with their own political capital and vision, or does it ultimately place greater value on leaders who remain closely aligned with the high command's direction ? More bluntly, does the BJP ultimately reward leaders who build political capital, or those who are willing to remain political puppets ? What does this say about the BJP's leadership model in Punjab ?

ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਨੇ ਸੁਨੀਲ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜਾਖੜ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਰਣਨੀਤਿਕ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਤਜਰਬੇਕਾਰ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਚਿਹਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਆਧਾਰ ਵੱਧਾਏਗੀ। ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਕੇਵਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਸੁਨੀਲ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜਾਖੜ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਗੈਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ: ਕੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਖੇਤਰੀ ਆਗੂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਜਨ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਹਾਈਕਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲਣ ? ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਸਵਾਲ, ਕੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਧਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਕੱਦ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਕਠਪੁਤਲੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ? ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਲੀਡਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਮਾਡਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ?
