When a sitting MLA like Dr Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi can openly switch from SAD to AAP, get government posts, speak in the House, and still wait endlessly for an anti-defection decision, what message does that send about the seriousness of the law ? And when Bhagwant Mann mocks the Opposition by comparing Sukhi to Congress voices like Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh, does it expose hypocrisy across parties or the slow death of accountability in legislatures ?

A) Anti-defection law has become optional when numbers suit the ruling side.

B) Parties now normalise defections while pretending to defend principles.

C) Delayed decisions protect defectors more than voters’ mandates.

D) This blurring of lines weakens trust in both the Assembly and democracy itself.

ਜਦੋਂ ਡਾ. ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਖੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ‘ਚ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਦਲ-ਬਦਲ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਲਟਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ‘ਤੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਖੜੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਧਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਣਾ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੁੱਖੀ ਦੀ ਤੁਲਨਾ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਸ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਥਰੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਗਵਿਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਦੋਹਰੀ ਨੀਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਕਾਬ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਵਾਬਦੇਹੀ ਦੇ ਖਤਮ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਹੈ ?
