But if Sikh tradition already commemorated their martyrdom in its own way, why did the Centre feel the need to rename it at all, and why ignore the directive of the Akal Takht now ? Is the BJP honouring Sikh history, or reshaping it through branding and centralised symbolism, even at the cost of Sikh institutions’ authority ?

ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਨੇ 26 ਦਸੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਰ ਬਾਲ ਦਿਵਸ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਰ ਜੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਰਿਵਾਇਤ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਬਦਲਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਕਿਉਂ ਪਈ ? ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਨੇ ਇਤਰਾਜ਼ ਜਤਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਡਿੱਠਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ? ਤਾਂ ਅਸਲ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਬ੍ਰਾਂਡਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਵਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਘਟੇ ?
