After finishing second in 2022 from Bhucho Mandi with 35,566 votes (23.75%) on an Akali Dal ticket, Darshan Singh Kotfatta made a major political shift by joining the Aam Aadmi Party in 2024. The move came after AAP’s landslide win in the constituency and its growing dominance in rural Punjab. So the real question now is this, is Darshan Singh Kotfatta’s switch to AAP a strategic bid to stay electorally relevant or does it underline how shrinking space in the Akali Dal is pushing leaders toward the ruling party ?
