Nitin Nabin’s appointment as BJP’s Working President is being called temporary, but the pattern is hard to miss. The post is not even mentioned in the BJP constitution, yet it has become a clear stepping stone to the top job. JP Nadda followed the same path in 2019 before becoming party president, and now Nabin seems set to do the same. With party elections nearly done and a “unanimous” choice already expected, the bigger question is simple: Are BJP president elections still about choice, or are they now just formal approval of decisions taken in advance ?

ਨਿਤਿਨ ਨਬੀਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਨਿਯੁਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਰੁਝਾਨ ਸਾਫ਼ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ, ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਸਿਖਰਲੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਪੌੜੀ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। 2019 ਵਿੱਚ ਜੇ.ਪੀ. ਨੱਡਾ ਨੇ ਇਹੀ ਰਾਹ ਅਪਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਨਬੀਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਬਣਦੀ ਦਿੱਖ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸੰਗਠਨਕ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲਗਭਗ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ “ਸਰਬਸੰਮਤੀ” ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੈਅ ਮੰਨੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਅਸਲੀ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ: ਕੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਚੋਣ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਫੈਸਲਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਮੋਹਰ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ?
