But with Punjab still holding 10% of India’s licensed firearms despite being only 2% of the population, the big question is: is Punjab finally moving away from its gun obsession, or will the crackdown only push people toward illegal weapons instead of fixing the mindset ?

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਗਭਗ 7,000 ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਸੰਸ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼, ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ‘ਚ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਾਇਰਿੰਗ ‘ਤੇ ਸਖ਼ਤੀ, ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ‘ਤੇ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਨਵੇਂ ਲਾਇਸੰਸ ਬੰਦ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਗਨ ਕਲਚਰ (ਹਥਿਆਰ ਰੁਝਾਨ) ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਮੋੜ ‘ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 2% ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕੋਲ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ 10% ਮੰਜੂਰਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ: ਕੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਾਕਈ ਹੀ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸ਼ੌਂਕ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਖ਼ਤੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਇਸੰਸੀ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਧੱਕ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ?
