This puts a national leader at the centre of the Punjab battle, much like the BJP’s leader-centric campaign around Narendra Modi. But Punjab also has a strong tradition of looking for a recognisable local leader. Can Congress’s strategy work without telling voters who will actually lead the state ? How should Congress approach its leadership strategy for 2027 ?

Congress has the organisation, experience and an anti-incumbency opportunity for 2027. Yet, instead of cornering Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab Congress keeps getting caught in factional fights and leadership rivalry. With Sachin Pilot brought in to unite the camps, the uncomfortable question is: has Congress learnt from 2022 or is it once again putting its own foot in its mouth ?
