During the Punjab Assembly’s Budget debate, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the Government would not rush into implementing the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for employees and would first study the financial impact faced by states like Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan after adopting it. While the Government has now formed a committee headed by the Chief Secretary to examine the issue, the cautious approach has raised eyebrows among employees who have long been demanding OPS restoration. Is the Punjab Government genuinely exercising financial prudence, or is the committee route becoming a convenient way to delay a politically sensitive promise ?
