Since coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party has repeatedly placed Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the centre of its political identity, from taking oath at Khatkar Kalan to invoking his name, image and idea of ‘Inquilab’. Yet Bhagat Singh stood for far more than a political symbol: he wrote about freedom, equality, exploitation, corruption and what India should look like after independence. Has the Aam Aadmi Party reduced his legacy to ceremonies, portraits and slogans while failing to carry his deeper political ideals into governance ?
सत्ता में आने के बाद से आम आदमी पार्टी ने शहीद भगत सिंह को अपनी राजनीतिक पहचान के केंद्र में रखा है, खटकड़ कलां में शपथ लेने से लेकर उनके नाम, तस्वीर और ‘इंकलाब’ के विचार को बार-बार सामने रखने तक। लेकिन भगत सिंह केवल एक राजनीतिक प्रतीक नहीं थे। वे आज़ादी, समानता, शोषण, भ्रष्टाचार और आज़ादी के बाद भारत कैसा होना चाहिए, जैसे सवालों पर लिखते थे। इससे एक सवाल उठता है: जब सत्ता क्या आम आदमी पार्टी ने उनकी विरासत को समारोहों, तस्वीरों और नारों तक सीमित कर दिया है, जबकि शासन में उनके गहरे राजनीतिक विचारों को उतना स्थान नहीं मिला ?
The Bhagwant Mann Government has rolled out monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for eligible women and ₹1,500 for eligible Scheduled Caste women, with a reported annual budget allocation of ₹9,300 Crores. The scheme was also a major promise made by the Aam Aadmi Party before the 2022 Assembly election. With 2027 approaching, the bigger question is whether the Aam Aadmi Party can make this welfare scheme a central part of its record, while facing questions on jobs, drugs, migration, household costs and other everyday issues. Can the Aam Aadmi Party use women’s cash support as a political shield or will voters demand a wider report card from the Mann Government ?
