With MGNREGA becoming Punjab Congress’s loudest rallying cry, a sharper concern is emerging. Despite having multiple senior leaders and long-time stalwarts, the party seems stuck on one issue while avoiding tougher questions on governance, law and order, drugs, youth unemployment and farm distress. If Indian National Congress struggles to set a broader agenda even while sitting in Opposition, what happens if it returns to power ? Is Punjab Congress leaning on MGNREGA to mask an idea vacuum, or has it truly run out of state-specific issues to fight on ?

And could this mix of reconciliation, policy clarity and ground-level promises help the Akali Dal slowly rebuild trust ahead of 2027 ?
