Four years after quitting the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2022, Sarup Chand Singla’s allegations still sting. He had claimed that senior Akali leaders quietly worked against him in Bathinda Urban while backing Manpreet Singh Badal, the cousin of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. Singla didn’t just leave the party over this, he later joined the BJP, turning an internal revolt into a full political break. Now, in 2026, as SAD talks revival and the BJP looks for space in Punjab, that episode remains unresolved. If an Akali MLA believed his own party undercut him to protect a Badal family interest and eventually joined the BJP, does Singla’s journey expose a one-off grievance or a pattern of dynastic politics that continues to push leaders out and haunt SAD’s revival even in 2026 ?
Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib, showed his opportunism by leaving a troubled Congress for BJP in 2024, after fights over tickets and party infighting. Is he a smart strategist or faithless turncoat ? His fast promotions, including a Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan by August 2024 and roles as Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, position him as BJP's main Sikh voice in Punjab, especially since he vowed the party will contest all 2027 seats alone. But with eyes on 2027 Punjab polls, can he convert national perks into state dominance ?
