The Centre has adopted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s own Assembly segment, Dhuri, under the Aspirational Blocks Programme, soon after Mann publicly attacked the Centre’s new rural employment law and called it “anti-poor.” This raises a poking question. Is the Centre stepping in to genuinely improve services in Dhuri or is it making a political point by closely monitoring and showcasing development in the Chief Minister’s backyard ? And if Dhuri needs special hand-holding from Delhi to deliver basic services, what does that say about the State Government’s claims of strong governance across Punjab ?
केंद्र सरकार ने मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान के अपने विधानसभा क्षेत्र धूरी को आकांक्षी ब्लॉक कार्यक्रम के तहत अपनाया है। यह फैसला ऐसे समय पर आया है, जब मान ने केंद्र की नई ग्रामीण रोज़गार योजना को “गरीब विरोधी” बताया था। इससे एक चुभता हुआ सवाल खड़ा होता है। क्या केंद्र वाकई धूरी में जनसेवाओं को बेहतर बनाने के लिए आगे आया है या फिर यह मुख्यमंत्री के अपने इलाके में विकास दिखाकर राजनीतिक संदेश देने की कोशिश है ? अगर धूरी को बुनियादी सेवाओं के लिए दिल्ली से खास निगरानी और सहारे की ज़रूरत है, तो इससे पंजाब में मज़बूत शासन और राज्य सरकार के दावों पर क्या सवाल नहीं उठते ?
If the Modi Government truly believes in minimum Government, maximum governance, why did it feel the need to step in at the very last moment and pull the plug on the Sahitya Akademi awards, after juries had finished their work, approvals were in place, and writers were already waiting ?
