BJP Punjab has taken its Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra across the state, with Manpreet Singh Badal presenting a strategy focused on treatment, rehabilitation, jobs and action against drug trafficking. That puts him in a visible role on one of Punjab’s biggest political issues. But ahead of the 2027 elections, could Manpreet Singh Badal be given a bigger role in BJP Punjab’s campaign or will his role remain centred mainly on the drug issue ? Can he use this campaign to build a wider political presence across Punjab ?
पंजाब भाजपा ने अपनी नशा-मुक्त पंजाब यात्रा के जरिए पूरे राज्य में अभियान चलाया है। मनप्रीत सिंह बादल ने नशे से निपटने के लिए इलाज, पुनर्वास, रोजगार और नशा तस्करी पर कार्रवाई को रणनीति का हिस्सा बताया है। इससे पंजाब के बड़े राजनीतिक मुद्दों में उन्हें एक प्रमुख भूमिका मिली है। लेकिन 2027 के चुनाव से पहले क्या मनप्रीत सिंह बादल को पंजाब भाजपा के अभियान में बड़ी भूमिका दी जाएगी या उनकी भूमिका मुख्य रूप से नशे के मुद्दे तक सीमित रहेगी ? क्या वे इस अभियान के जरिए पूरे पंजाब में अपनी व्यापक राजनीतिक पहचान बना सकते हैं ?
BJP Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia has said the party will contest all 117 Assembly seats and cross the majority mark through organisation, strategy and campaign management. The party is also expanding booth-level work and taking its anti-drug campaign across all 117 constituencies. But BJP won only two Assembly seats in 2022, while its 2024 Lok Sabha vote share rose to 18.56% without winning a Punjab seat. So, is BJP’s “Punjab miracle” built on a real ground game or is the party counting its chickens before they hatch ?
