The Shiromani Akali Dal broke its alliance with the BJP in 2020 over the farm laws, with Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigning from the Union Cabinet before SAD left the NDA. Now the BJP is openly preparing for a solo 2027 Punjab fight. But Sukhbir Singh Badal has not given Punjab the same clear answer that SAD will contest all 117 seats on its own. If SAD could break a decades-old alliance over the farm laws, why is Sukhbir Singh Badal still keeping Punjab guessing about a solo 2027 fight ? Is he simply not confident enough or does he already know the electoral maths ?
शिरोमणि अकाली दल ने 2020 में कृषि कानूनों को लेकर भाजपा के साथ अपना गठबंधन तोड़ दिया था। हरसिमरत कौर बादल ने केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल से इस्तीफा देने के बाद अकाली दल ने एन.डी.ए. से भी नाता तोड़ लिया। अब भाजपा 2027 के पंजाब विधानसभा चुनाव में अकेले लड़ने की तैयारी कर रही है। लेकिन सुखबीर सिंह बादल ने अभी तक पंजाब को यह साफ जवाब नहीं दिया है कि अकाली दल सभी 117 सीटों पर अकेले चुनाव लड़ेगा। अगर अकाली दल कृषि कानूनों जैसे बड़े पंजाब मुद्दे पर दशकों पुराना गठबंधन तोड़ सकता था, तो सुखबीर सिंह बादल 2027 में अकेले चुनाव लड़ने के सवाल पर पंजाब को असमंजस में क्यों रख रहे हैं ? क्या उनमें अकेले लड़ने का भरोसा नहीं है या उन्हें पहले से ही चुनावी गणित पता है ?
In 2007, the SAD-BJP alliance won 24 of 27 seats in the Panthic belt, 17 for SAD and 7 for BJP. The tally fell to 16 in 2012. In 2017, Congress won 22 seats, while SAD-BJP was left with 3. In 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party won 16 seats. The shift reflects deeper concerns around rural distress, drugs, farm problems, corruption, sacrilege cases and governance. Sikh voters are not a single bloc, while newer Panthic forces have also entered the space once dominated by SAD. If Panthic voters once gave SAD-BJP 24 of 27 seats but later moved to Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, has Punjab’s Panthic politics lost its political home ?
