In that context, Rupinderjit Singh, contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket, managed just 2,330 votes (1.56%), finishing at the very bottom of the race. The result highlighted how marginal the BJP remains in rural Malwa, even during a multi-cornered contest and despite being in power at the Centre. Does this performance reflect the limits of Rupinderjit Singh as a candidate or does it expose the BJP’s near-absence on the ground in rural Punjab, where national power still fails to translate into local votes ?
भुच्चो मंडी सीट पर 2012 और 2017 में कांग्रेस की जीत रही थी। लेकिन 2022 का चुनाव पंजाब में आम आदमी पार्टी की तेज़ लहर के बीच हुआ। इसी माहौल में रूपिंदरजीत सिंह ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी के टिकट पर चुनाव लड़ा और उन्हें सिर्फ़ 2,330 मत (1.56%) मिले। वह मुकाबले में सबसे नीचे रहे। इस नतीजे ने साफ़ किया कि केंद्र में सत्ता में होने के बावजूद ग्रामीण मालवा में भाजपा अब भी हाशिये पर है, और बहुकोणीय मुकाबले में भी उसकी मौजूदगी बेहद कमजोर रही। क्या यह प्रदर्शन रूपिंदरजीत सिंह की व्यक्तिगत सीमाओं को दिखाता है या फिर यह ग्रामीण पंजाब में भाजपा की ज़मीनी गैर-मौजूदगी को उजागर करता है, जहाँ राष्ट्रीय सत्ता भी स्थानीय मतों में नहीं बदल पा रही ?
Surjit Singh Dhiman won the Amargarh Assembly seat in 2017 on a Congress ticket, but his political trajectory took a hit when he was expelled from the party ahead of the 2022 elections. Since then, Congress has struggled to regain its footing in the constituency. So the real question for 2027 is this, will Congress return to Surjit Singh Dhiman as a familiar and tested face in Amargarh or has his expulsion permanently closed that chapter ?
