In 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party entered Punjab with a “first-timers” and fresh-politics pitch. Many of its leaders were new to the Government and presented themselves as an alternative to the old political order. But in 2027, that card cannot be played in the same way. After five years in power, voters can judge the party’s ministers, MLAs and senior leaders on their actual record. How many strong Punjab leaders can the Aam Aadmi Party actually project in 2027, who have enough political record and ground connect to carry the party’s campaign ?

The Aam Aadmi Party has appointed former Akali minister Surjit Singh Rakhra as its Samana halqa in-charge ahead of the 2027 Assembly election. Rakhra has a strong political base in Samana, while the constituency is currently represented by AAP MLA Chetan Singh Jouramajra. The move has already triggered speculation about who could get the 2027 ticket. If AAP is already positioning a former Akali heavyweight in Samana, does Rakhra’s elevation signal a 2027 ticket battle and leave Chetan Singh Jouramajra fighting for his political space ?
