Over the past decade, the BJP has invested heavily in expanding its footprint in Punjab through initiatives such as the Kartarpur Corridor, outreach to the Sikh community, removal of several Sikh names from blacklists, and now a renewed push to reconnect with farmers and address Punjab's agrarian crisis. Yet, despite these efforts, the shadow of the farm laws continues to loom large over the party's image in rural Punjab. Can years of outreach and fresh engagement overcome the deep trust deficit created by the farm laws, or has that chapter fundamentally reshaped how Punjab views the BJP ? As the party looks towards 2027, will Punjabis remember the bridges the BJP built, or the ones they believe it burned ?
पिछले एक दशक में भाजपा ने करतारपुर कॉरिडोर, सिख समुदाय से लगातार संवाद, कई सिखों के नाम ब्लैकलिस्ट से हटाने और अब किसानों से दोबारा जुड़ने तथा पंजाब के कृषि संकट पर नए सिरे से ध्यान देने जैसे कई प्रयासों के माध्यम से पंजाब में अपनी राजनीतिक पकड़ मजबूत करने की कोशिश की है। लेकिन इन सभी पहलों के बावजूद कृषि कानूनों की याद आज भी ग्रामीण पंजाब में भाजपा की छवि पर भारी पड़ती दिखाई देती है। क्या वर्षों की यह पहुंच और नए प्रयास कृषि कानूनों से पैदा हुए भरोसे के संकट को दूर कर पाएंगे, या उस दौर ने पंजाब की भाजपा के प्रति सोच को हमेशा के लिए बदल दिया है ? 2027 की ओर बढ़ते हुए क्या पंजाब भाजपा द्वारा बनाए गए पुलों को याद रखेगा, या उन पुलों को जिन्हें उसके अनुसार भाजपा ने खुद तोड़ दिया ?
When the BJP appointed Sunil Kumar Jakhar as its Punjab President, the move was projected as a strategic breakthrough, bringing in one of Punjab's most experienced political faces to expand the party beyond its traditional support base. Today, however, Kewal Singh Dhillon heads the Punjab BJP while Jakhar appears increasingly politically redundant. This raises a larger question about the BJP's model of leadership in Punjab. Is the party truly looking to cultivate influential regional leaders with their own political capital and vision, or does it ultimately place greater value on leaders who remain closely aligned with the high command's direction ? More bluntly, does the BJP ultimately reward leaders who build political capital, or those who are willing to remain political puppets ? What does this say about the BJP's leadership model in Punjab ?
