The Aam Aadmi Party came to power in 2022 promising to make Punjab drug-free. Yet Punjab recorded the highest number of drug trafficking cases in India in 2024, along with 106 overdose deaths. The killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa exposed the dangers faced by those confronting the drug trade. His family had to demand a CBI probe, which the Chief Minister eventually approved. With drug networks still under scrutiny, the gap between the Government's promise and the ground reality is hard to ignore. If Punjab's drug problem was a top priority in 2022, why is the state still struggling with trafficking, overdose deaths and the safety of those fighting drugs four years later ?

ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਓਵਰਡੋਜ਼ ਕਾਰਨ 106 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋਈ। ਮਾਨਸਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਾਰਕੁਨ ਪਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਝੋਟਾ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਨੇ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਖ਼ਤਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੀ.ਬੀ.ਆਈ. ਜਾਂਚ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਠ ਰਹੇ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਸਾਫ਼ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਸੂਬਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ, ਓਵਰਡੋਜ਼ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਮੌਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਲੜਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੂਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ?
