The Aam Aadmi Party Government’s promise of 300 free electricity units has brought relief to many households but a new concern has emerged. Punjab’s domestic electricity load has risen by over 40% since the scheme began, while the state has struggled to add new power generation capacity. During this year’s paddy season, demand crossed 17,400 MW, yet Punjab faced a power shortage. With demand expected to rise further, is the Government balancing free power with long-term energy planning or could today’s relief lead to tomorrow’s power crisis ?

ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ 300 ਯੂਨਿਟ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਕਈ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਇਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਘਰੇਲੂ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ 40% ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਸੂਬਾ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਦੀ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵੱਧਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਝੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਸੀਜ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ 17,400 ਮੈਗਾਵਾਟ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ। ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੰਗ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਧਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਊਰਜਾ ਯੋਜਨਾਬੰਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਵੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਰਾਹਤ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਦਾ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਸੰਕਟ ਬਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ?
