The controversy surrounding Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and the death of Gulzar Singh has created a difficult test for the Bhagwant Mann Government. Protesters have alleged that Gulzar Singh’s dying declaration held Cheema responsible, while the FIR reportedly does not name the minister. These allegations remain to be established but for AAP, which came to power promising clean governance, transparency and accountability, the issue raises a larger question: Can AAP maintain public trust when serious allegations are being raised against one of its senior leaders ?

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਲਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਠੇ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਨੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਇਮਤਿਹਾਨ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਲਜ਼ਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੀਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਦਰਜ ਐਫ.ਆਈ.ਆਰ. ਵਿੱਚ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਜੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਲਈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸੁਥਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ, ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਵਾਬਦੇਹੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਸੀ, ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ: ਕੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਕ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਆਗੂ ’ਤੇ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲੱਗਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖ ਸਕੇਗੀ ?
