ABVP has secured a second consecutive victory in the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council election, with Ankit Bidhan winning the President’s post by 506 votes. ABVP has described the result as a sign that Gen Z students still have faith in nationalism and that student voters are choosing performance over political noise. But does one campus election really reveal where young Indians are headed politically ? Is Panjab University’s result a sign of changing Gen Z politics or simply a campus-specific verdict ?
Polling
A) Gen Z is not moving away from nationalism.
B) Student voters care more about performance than ideology.
C) One university election cannot define Gen Z’s politics.
D) Campus elections are becoming a bigger political signal.
With the 2027 Punjab elections approaching, talk of a BJP–Shiromani Akali Dal reunion has put Sukhbir Singh Badal’s political plans under the spotlight. The BJP reportedly wants at least 45 of Punjab’s 117 seats, while the question of who will lead the alliance remains a key hurdle. For Sukhbir Badal, a reunion could offer a path back to power but it may also mean giving up seats and sharing the spotlight. Is he ready to compromise for an alliance or will his ambition to lead become its biggest test ?
With the Election Commission yet to decide on the registration of Akali Dal ‘Waris Punjab De’ as a political party, the organisation is already preparing for the 2027 Punjab elections and expanding its network across the state. Its leaders have indicated that candidates could contest as Independents if registration is not granted, raising a bigger political question about how far the organisation can build a common identity without official party status. If registration remains pending or is denied, could this limit its ability to challenge the Shiromani Akali Dal for political space in Punjab ?
