Since 2014, the BJP has expanded into several states once considered politically out of reach. Yet Punjab remains one of the few exceptions. Years of dependence on the Shiromani Akali Dal, the fallout of the farmers' movement and limited grassroots expansion have prevented the party from emerging as a dominant force on its own. Even the recent local body elections offered little evidence of a major breakthrough. As the Congress battles internal divisions and the AAP faces growing anti-incumbency, the BJP hopes to fill the political vacuum. But can it truly do so without the Akali Dal, or has Punjab already shown that the BJP still lacks the independent organisational strength to cross the finish line alone ?
