Punjab was once among India's most prosperous states. Today, rising debt, shrinking fiscal space, declining industrial competitiveness, youth migration and political polarisation have become defining features of its public discourse. Yet almost every political party continues to promise more subsidies, more freebies and more populism, while avoiding the painful structural reforms needed to revive the state's economy. This raises a bigger question: Does Punjab still need another politician promising easy solutions, or does it need a statesman willing to take difficult, even unpopular, decisions for the state's long-term future ? Can Punjab's politics move beyond winning the next election to saving the next generation ?

Proposals - SUNLO

A) Punjab now needs courageous leadership willing to take tough decisions instead of chasing short-term popularity.

B) Political parties have normalised populism while avoiding the structural reforms the state desperately needs.

C) Without a common long-term vision across political parties, Punjab's economic decline will only deepen.

D) The greatest test of leadership is not winning applause today, but securing Punjab's future even at political cost.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਦੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਸੂਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਅੱਜ ਵੱਧਦਾ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ, ਘੱਟਦੀ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ, ਉਦਯੋਗਿਕ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਰਾਵਟ, ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਲਾਇਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਧਦਾ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਧਰੁਵੀਕਰਨ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਲਗਭਗ ਹਰ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਔਖੇ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਸੁਧਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਸਕੀਮਾਂ, ਸਬਸਿਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਵਾਅਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਰੁੱਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ: ਕੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਸੋਖੇ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਸਿਆਸਤਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਰਾਜਨੇਤਾ ਦੀ ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਔਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਰ- ਲੋਕਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ? ਕੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਅਗਲੀ ਚੋਣ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਧ ਕੇ ਅਗਲੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਸੋਚੇਗੀ ?
