ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਨੇ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਰਤਨ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਇਆ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਣਾਅਪੂਰਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਰੈਡਿਟ ਤੇ ਨੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤਕਰਾਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਹੀ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ-ਏ-ਆਜ਼ਮ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਰਤਨ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ, ਪਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆ। ਜੋ ਏਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਹ ਸਮੇਂ, ਮਾਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਗਿਆ। ਕੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੀ ਮੰਗ ਹੁਣ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ?
