Veteran Punjab politician Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu, who has moved between the Indian National Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal over the years, has now shifted his political base from Talwandi Sabo to Maur while signalling his intention to contest the next Assembly election from there. Having earlier won three times as a Congress MLA (2002, 2007 and 2012), later joined the Akali Dal to win a bypoll, rejoined Congress in 2023, and contested the 2024 Bathinda parliamentary election against Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Sidhu’s latest move also unfolds amid local rivalries within Congress and the presence of strong competitors from AAP and SAD in Maur. In Punjab’s constantly shifting political landscape, does this relocation reflect a calculated attempt to find a fresh electoral battleground, or could repeated shifts in party loyalties and constituencies raise questions about long-term political credibility ?

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਆਗੂ ਜੀਤਮੋਹਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਜੋ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ-ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ ਸਾਬੋ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਅਧਾਰ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਮੌੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਗਲੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਲੜਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਧੂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ 2002, 2007 ਅਤੇ 2012 ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਟਿਕਟ ’ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਰਹਿ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਉਪ ਚੋਣ ਵੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ 2023 ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੜ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ 2024 ਦੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਤੋਂ ਹਰਸਿਮਰਤ ਕੌਰ ਬਾਦਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜੀ। ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੌੜ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੀ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਆਗੂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਕਦਮ ਨਵੇਂ ਚੋਣ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਤਲਾਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਸੋਚੀ-ਸਮਝੀ ਰਣਨੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਵਾਰ-ਵਾਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਲਕਾ ਬਦਲਣਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗਤਾ ’ਤੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਵੀ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ?
