Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar has been projecting the leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah as the solution to Punjab’s security and governance problems. Yet recent political history raises a key question. In the last Assembly election, the BJP struggled to present a strong local face and tried to ride on the influence of Captain Amarinder Singh, but that experiment failed to excite voters. The much-discussed "Hindutva wave" that worked in states like Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand also failed to gain traction in Punjab, where many voters instead chose to test Arvind Kejriwal’s governance model focused on education, health, water and power.

matter more to voters than ideological

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸੁਨੀਲ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜਾਖੜ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਿਤ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਹਾਲੀਆ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਤਜਰਬਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਸਵਾਲ ਵੀ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਿਛਲੀਆਂ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਕਰਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ’ਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਵੋਟਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ। ਜਿਹੜੀ “ਹਿੰਦੂਤਵ ਲਹਿਰ” ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਖੰਡ ਵਰਗੇ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡ ਸਕੀ।
