Sohan Singh Thandal’s political journey in Chabbewal has been anything but steady. As the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate in 2022, he failed to win the seat. He later switched to the BJP, was named its candidate for the 2024 Chabbewal by-election, and managed only 8,692 votes (10.18%), finishing a distant third. Now, months later, Thandal has returned to the Akali Dal once again. Now, as Punjab moves toward 2027, will voters see Thandal as a seasoned leader who corrected course or as a symbol of political hopping guided more by opportunity than conviction ?

ਚੱਬੇਵਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਠੰਡਲ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਸਥਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ। 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਹ ਸੀਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਸਕੇ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ 2024 ਦੀ ਚੱਬੇਵਾਲ ਉਪਚੋਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 8,692 ਵੋਟ (10.18%) ਮਿਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੀਜੇ ਨੰਬਰ ’ਤੇ ਰਹੇ। ਹੁਣ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਠੰਡਲ ਮੁੜ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ 2027 ਵੱਲ ਵੱਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸਵਾਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਵੋਟਰ ਠੰਡਲ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹ ਸਹੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਜਰਬੇਕਾਰ ਆਗੂ ਵਜੋਂ ਦੇਖਣਗੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੌਕੇ ਦੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਬਦਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ?
