In 2022, when the Shiromani Akali Dal fought Raikot in alliance with the BSP, Balwinder Singh Sandhu was the alliance candidate and secured 8,381 votes (7.38%). Despite the joint banner, the result exposed how far the Akali vote had slipped in the constituency. Now appointed as constituency incharge of Raikot for the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sandhu has been given organisational responsibility at a time when the party is trying to make a comeback before 2027. Is Akali Dal rebuilding patiently through structure and loyalty or struggling to project a candidate who can actually convert ground work into votes ? And after the alliance experiment failed, will Akali Dal give Sandhu another chance in 2027 ?

2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਨੇ ਬਸਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਗਠਜੋੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਏਕੋਟ ਤੋਂ ਚੋਣ ਲੜੀ, ਤਾਂ ਗਠਜੋੜ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਬਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੂੰ 8,381 ਵੋਟ (7.38%) ਮਿਲੇ। ਸਾਂਝੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਨਤੀਜਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਵੋਟ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਘੱਟ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਨੇ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਏਕੋਟ ਦਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ 2027 ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਸਵਾਲ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੌਲੀ-ਹੌਲੀ ਮੁੜ ਬਣਤਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਐਸਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਲੱਭ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਦਾਨੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਸਕੇ ? ਅਤੇ ਗਠਜੋੜ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਅਸਫ਼ਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਕੀ 2027 ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਮੌਕਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ ?
