In Ludhiana East, Sanjay (Sanjeev) Talwar, who served as MLA from 2017 to 2022, could manage only 32,760 votes (22.67%) in the election, finishing a distant second as AAP surged ahead. For a sitting MLA just one term ago, the fall was steep. Was Talwar rejected by voters or did Congress fail to defend its own former MLA with organisation and direction ? And if a recent MLA couldn’t retain trust here, what does that signal for Congress’s chances in Ludhiana East by 2027 ?

ਬੱਸੀ ਪਠਾਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (ਜੀਪੀ) ਨੇ 2017 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੱਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਪਰ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰੀ ਹਾਰ ਮਿਲੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ 16,177 ਮਤ (14.43%) ਮਿਲੇ, ਜਦਕਿ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇ 54,000 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਮਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੇ। 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਪੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ‘ਚ “ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ” ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਰੀਫ਼ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕੀ ਜੀਪੀ ਨੇ ‘ਆਪ’ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਬਦਲੀ ਜਾਂ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਵੋਟਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸਨ ? ਜੇ ਲੋਕ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਫ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਬਦਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਬਦਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਟਿਕਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਏਗੀ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ‘ਆਪ’ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤ ਮੰਨੇਗੀ ਜਾਂ 2022 ਦੀ ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ?
