From Mandal to ‘Mandal vs Kamandal’, India’s politics has been shaken more by caste than by class, economy or ideology. 

Four decades later, when statues glorify B.P. Mandal but the same backward castes still struggle for dignity and equal opportunity, has Mandal’s legacy truly empowered the oppressed?
