The Punjab Vidhan Sabha has passed a resolution urging future governments to continue welfare schemes launched under Bhagwant Mann. These include monthly assistance to women, free electricity, health coverage, free bus travel and other benefits. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has challenged opposition parties to clarify whether they would retain these schemes or cut them if elected. AAP is presenting these benefits as people's entitlements rather than political favours. But is AAP turning welfare schemes into a political test that forces its rivals to defend themselves before the 2027 elections ?
पंजाब विधानसभा ने एक प्रस्ताव पारित कर भविष्य की सरकारों से भगवंत मान सरकार द्वारा शुरू की गई कल्याणकारी योजनाओं को जारी रखने की अपील की है। इनमें महिलाओं को मासिक आर्थिक सहायता, मुफ्त बिजली, स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएँ और मुफ्त बस यात्रा शामिल हैं। वित्त मंत्री हरपाल सिंह चीमा ने विपक्षी दलों से पूछा है कि सत्ता में आने पर वे इन योजनाओं को जारी रखेंगे या बंद करेंगे। आम आदमी पार्टी इन लाभों को राजनीतिक रियायत नहीं, बल्कि जनता का अधिकार बता रही है। लेकिन क्या आम आदमी पार्टी इन योजनाओं के जरिए 2027 के चुनाव से पहले विपक्ष को जवाब देने के लिए मजबूर कर रही है ?
Bhagwant Mann has accused previous Governments of failing to protect Punjab’s water rights and allowing powerful interests to benefit from public resources. He has also questioned the Shiromani Akali Dal’s efforts to ally with the BJP after once accusing it of being anti-farmer. Meanwhile, Mann claims opposition parties may roll back welfare schemes if they return to power. Mann attacks the old political order but how should Punjabis judge his own Government’s claims of protecting their interests ?
