How does the Government’s decision to criminalise peaceful protests for such basic rights reflect on the larger issue of justice and fairness for the people?
Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal spent decades at the grassroots as a Sarpanch before stepping into state politics, winning from Qadian in 2007, facing a setback in Batala in 2012, and then making a strong comeback in 2017 by becoming the first Akali Dal MLA from Batala. His journey shows persistence, local connect, and the ability to bounce back after defeat. But with changing political dynamics in Punjab and shifting voter expectations, the real question now is whether that earlier success can still hold strong. After a long grassroots career, a comeback win, and time passing since his last victory, does Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal still have the same ground strength in Batala, or has the political mood moved beyond his peak influence ?
Sucha Singh Chhotepur’s political journey has seen almost every turn possible, from being a sarpanch in 1975 to becoming a minister in 1985, contesting as an Independent, joining Congress, playing a key role in major elections, becoming a top face of AAP in Punjab, launching his own party, and then returning to Akali Dal before the 2022 elections. In 2022, he contested from Batala but faced defeat, adding another twist to his long career. Even today, he continues to be seen among the rebel voices in Punjab politics, rarely sticking to a fixed line. But with such a long history of shifting roles, parties, and now a continued rebel image along with recent electoral defeat, the question is whether this independence is his strength or his biggest weakness. After decades in politics, a loss from Batala, and still being seen as a rebel, is Sucha Singh Chhotepur a fearless independent voice, or has this constant shift and rebellion reduced his credibility and chances on the ground ?
