Gurdeep Singh Randhawa shocked many in Punjab politics by defeating Congress candidate Jatinder Kaur Randhawa in the Dera Baba Nanak bypoll, winning a seat that was considered the personal fortress of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. But one victory does not guarantee a hold in a constituency known for tight-knit loyalty and sudden political swings. With AAP’s graph fluctuating, Congress trying to recover, and local equations changing fast, the question is, has Gurdeep Singh Randhawa truly emerged as the new power centre of Dera Baba Nanak or did he win only because Sukhjinder Randhawa wasn’t on the ballot and 2027 may expose how fragile his support actually is ?

Jai Krishan Singh Rouri is now a two-term MLA from Garhshankar and currently the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, a big jump for someone who entered politics through AAP’s grassroots movement. But his 2022 victory came with a warning sign: a margin of just 4,179 votes, far smaller than many AAP wins, and Garhshankar remains one of Punjab’s most unpredictable multi-cornered seats. So as 2027 approaches, the real question is: Has Jai Krishan Singh Rouri truly established himself as an independent political force in Garhshankar or is he still surviving more on AAP’s brand than his own ground strength ?
