In Budhlada, Dr. Nishan Singh Hakamwala was the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate in 2022 and finished second, though well behind AAP’s sweeping victory. Even with that setback, he remained the party’s main face in the constituency and kept an Akali presence visible during a difficult phase. Now, with Sukhbir Singh Badal already announcing Dr. Nishan Singh Hakamwala as the party’s candidate for 2027, it is clear the leadership continues to place trust in him. The real question now is whether this early backing can turn steady support into a comeback challenge, or whether Budhlada still remains a difficult seat for Akali Dal. Is Dr. Hakamwala the face of revival in Budhlada, or simply the strongest available option ?
