Congress is choosing not to name a CM face before the 2027 Punjab elections, hoping to prevent another round of factional warfare while putting Rahul Gandhi at the centre of the campaign. But with leaders like Raja Warring, Charanjit Singh Channi and others carrying their own political weight, can a “collective leadership” strategy actually unite the party or simply postpone the leadership fight until after the results ? Is Congress avoiding a CM face to protect party unity or because it cannot decide who should lead Punjab ?
कांग्रेस ने 2027 के पंजाब विधानसभा चुनाव से पहले मुख्यमंत्री का चेहरा घोषित न करने का फैसला किया है। मकसद है गुटबाजी को रोकना और राहुल गांधी को चुनाव अभियान के केंद्र में रखना। लेकिन राजा वड़िंग, चरणजीत सिंह चन्नी और दूसरे नेताओं की अपनी-अपनी राजनीतिक पकड़ है। ऐसे में क्या “सामूहिक नेतृत्व” की रणनीति कांग्रेस को एकजुट कर पाएगी या सिर्फ़ नेतृत्व की लड़ाई को चुनाव नतीजों तक टाल देगी ? क्या कांग्रेस एकता बचाने के लिए मुख्यमंत्री का चेहरा नहीं बता रही है या उससे यह तय ही नहीं हो पा रहा कि पंजाब का नेतृत्व कौन करे ?
Congress has decided not to project a Chief Ministerial face for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections and will instead fight as a team, with Rahul Gandhi leading the campaign. This puts a national leader at the centre of the Punjab battle, much like the BJP’s leader-centric campaign around Narendra Modi. But Punjab also has a strong tradition of looking for a recognisable local leader. Can Congress’s strategy work without telling voters who will actually lead the state ? How should Congress approach its leadership strategy for 2027 ?
