Punjab Congress leaders led by Amarinder Singh Raja Warring tried to march towards the Assembly on the first day of the Budget Session but were stopped by heavy barricading and water cannons by the UT police, with hundreds of workers briefly detained. The protest was aimed at targeting the Bhagwant Mann Government over alleged failures on promises, law and order, and the state’s economy. However, such confrontational, almost campus-style protest politics has been a frequent feature of Indian National Congress demonstrations in Punjab in recent years.
