Actor-turned-politician Vijay has unveiled an ambitious welfare package ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, promising ₹2,500 per month for women heads of households, gold gifts for marriages and newborns, free LPG cylinders and other benefits, seemingly outbidding existing schemes of parties like DMK and AIADMK. However, Vijay had earlier criticised the culture of political “freebies,” raising questions about whether this shift represents political pragmatism or a contradiction in his earlier stance.
