With Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri openly declaring that Punjab is now one of the BJP's next major political targets, the party appears far more ambitious than it was during its years as a junior alliance partner. Pointing to gains in West Bengal, rising vote share in local elections and the BJP's plan to contest far more seats than before, Puri is signalling that the party no longer sees Punjab as a peripheral battleground. But is this confidence based on genuine ground-level growth, or on the belief that dissatisfaction with AAP and divisions within the opposition will automatically create space for the BJP ? And as the party raises expectations higher than ever, will Punjab become the BJP's next breakthrough story, or its next reality check ?
केंद्रीय मंत्री हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने खुलकर कहा है कि पंजाब अब भाजपा के अगले बड़े राजनीतिक लक्ष्यों में शामिल है। कभी गठबंधन की जूनियर सहयोगी रही भाजपा अब कहीं अधिक महत्वाकांक्षी दिखाई दे रही है। पश्चिम बंगाल में मिली सफलता, स्थानीय निकाय चुनावों में बढ़े वोट शेयर और पहले से कहीं अधिक सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ने की तैयारी का हवाला देते हुए पुरी यह संकेत दे रहे हैं कि भाजपा अब पंजाब को राजनीतिक हाशिये का राज्य नहीं मानती। लेकिन क्या यह आत्मविश्वास वास्तव में ज़मीनी विस्तार पर आधारित है, या फिर इस उम्मीद पर कि 'आप' के खिलाफ बढ़ती नाराज़गी और विपक्ष की आपसी कमजोरियाँ अपने आप भाजपा के लिए जगह बना देंगी ? और जब पार्टी उम्मीदों का स्तर लगातार ऊँचा कर रही है, तो क्या पंजाब भाजपा की अगली बड़ी सफलता की कहानी बनेगा या फिर एक बड़ा राजनीतिक रियलिटी चेक ?
The BJP chose Bhagwant Mann's own constituency, Dhuri, for its first major political show under Kewal Singh Dhillon, hoping to signal confidence and challenge AAP on its home turf. But soon after the rally, AAP leaders mocked the event by pointing to empty chairs and claiming that Punjab had once again rejected the BJP. This has created an interesting political contrast the BJP says it is boldly entering its opponent's strongest fortress, while AAP says the fortress barely noticed the attack. So what should voters make of it ? Was the Dhuri rally the opening move of a serious BJP challenge for 2027, or did it unintentionally highlight just how far the party still has to travel before it can compete with Punjab's established players ?
