In Nihal Singh Wala, Baldev Singh Manuke contested the 2022 Assembly election on the Shiromani Akali Dal ticket and secured 26,758 votes (19.1%), finishing close to Congress but far behind AAP’s sweep. The numbers showed he still held a core Akali vote, even as the party struggled to expand its reach. Now aligned with the Akali Dal Punar Surjit faction, the question for 2027 becomes sharper. Does this shift give Manuke a fresh political path or does it further shrink his space in a seat already moving away from traditional Akali politics ? Can he turn loyalty into growth or will he remain competitive but not decisive ?
निहाल सिंह वाला में बलदेव सिंह मानुके ने 2022 का विधानसभा चुनाव शिरोमणि अकाली दल के टिकट पर लड़ा और 26,758 वोट (19.1%) हासिल किए। वह कांग्रेस के काफ़ी करीब रहे, लेकिन आम आदमी पार्टी की बड़ी जीत से बहुत पीछे रह गए। नतीजों से यह साफ हुआ कि उनके पास अब भी अकाली दल का एक स्थायी वोट बैंक है, हालांकि पार्टी की पकड़ आगे नहीं बढ़ पाई। अब अकाली दल पुनर सुरजीत गुट से जुड़ने के बाद 2027 को लेकर सवाल और तेज हो गया है। क्या यह बदलाव मानुके को नई राजनीतिक दिशा देगा या फिर ऐसे सीट पर उनकी जगह और सीमित हो जाएगी जो पारंपरिक अकाली राजनीति से आगे बढ़ चुकी है ? क्या वह समर्थन को बढ़त में बदल पाएंगे या फिर मुकाबले में रहकर भी निर्णायक नहीं बन पाएंगे ?
Darbara Singh Guru, once among the most trusted IAS officers of the Badal family and Principal Secretary to Parkash Singh Badal, later entered politics as an administrator-turned-politician. He was the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate from Bassi Pathana in 2017 but lost both the Assembly election and a later Lok Sabha contest from Fatehgarh Sahib. With SAD’s 2022 BSP alliance candidate now in the BJP, and the party’s ground strength weakened, the 2027 question is simple, can the Akali Dal still trust Darbara Singh Guru to revive itself in Bassi Pathana or has the seat moved beyond familiar names and old equations under the current leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal ?
