The Government of India has admitted in Parliament that the demand for DAP fertilizer in Punjab during the Rabi season was around 4 lakh Metric Tons. However, only 3.6 lakh Metric Tons of DAP were supplied. This is a serious concern because the area under Wheat cultivation in Punjab was record-breaking this time.

Ranjit Singh Gahlewal contested from Samrala on a BJP ticket in 2022 but remained a marginal player, polling just over 2,300 votes.
