The Government of India has admitted in Parliament that the demand for DAP fertilizer in Punjab during the Rabi season was around 4 lakh Metric Tons. However, only 3.6 lakh Metric Tons of DAP were supplied. This is a serious concern because the area under Wheat cultivation in Punjab was record-breaking this time.

The Mukerian Assembly seat has traditionally swung only between Congress and BJP, making it one of the state’s most bipolar contests. After narrowly missing out in the 2019 bypoll, Jangi Lal Mahajan finally broke through in 2022, winning for the BJP with 41,044 votes. But in a seat where power keeps changing hands, one win rarely guarantees stability. Was Mahajan’s victory a true shift in voter loyalty or just Mukerian following its old habit of alternating between the two parties ? And as 2027 approaches, can BJP hold this seat again or does Mukerian’s history suggest another flip is always around the corner ?
मुक़ेरियां विधानसभा सीट परंपरागत रूप से केवल कांग्रेस और बीजेपी के बीच झूलती रही है, इसलिए इसे राज्य की सबसे ज़्यादा दो-ध्रुवीय सीटों में गिना जाता है। 2019 के उपचुनाव में बेहद करीब हारने के बाद, जंगी लाल महाजन ने 2022 में 41,044 वोट हासिल कर बीजेपी के लिए जीत दर्ज की। लेकिन जिस सीट पर सत्ता बार-बार बदलती रही हो, वहाँ एक जीत स्थायी भरोसे की गारंटी नहीं होती। तो सवाल साफ है, क्या महाजन की जीत मतदाताओं की सोच में असली बदलाव दिखाती है या यह सिर्फ मुक़ेरियां की पुरानी आदत है जहाँ हर चुनाव में पलड़ा बदल जाता है ? और जैसे-जैसे 2027 नज़दीक आ रहा है, क्या बीजेपी इस सीट को संभाल पाएगी या इतिहास फिर से करवट लेने वाला है ?
Parveen Bansal has been coming second in Ludhiana North since 2012, including in 2022. The last time BJP won this seat was in 2007, when Harish Bedi was elected. After that, BJP has stayed in the race but has not been able to break through. So as 2027 approaches, will voters still place faith in Parveen Bansal despite continuous losses or will they expect BJP to try something different to finally change the result in Ludhiana North ?
