Supporters hailed it as a step towards financial independence, while critics argued that reducing women's empowerment to spending money on consumer needs overlooks larger aspirations such as employment, entrepreneurship, education and economic self reliance. At a time when Punjab faces mounting debt and fiscal challenges, one deeper question emerges: Should the Government's vision for women end with helping them spend, or begin with helping them earn ? Is true empowerment measured by cash assistance, or by creating opportunities that eliminate dependence altogether ?
मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान ने मुख्यमंत्री मावां धीयां सत्कार योजना की शुरुआत के दौरान कहा कि अब महिलाओं को सूट खरीदने के लिए अपने परिवार के पुरुषों से पैसे नहीं मांगने पड़ेंगे। समर्थकों ने इसे महिलाओं की आर्थिक स्वतंत्रता की दिशा में एक कदम बताया, जबकि आलोचकों का कहना है कि महिला सशक्तिकरण को केवल उपभोक्ता वस्तुओं पर खर्च करने तक सीमित कर देना, रोजगार, उद्यमिता, शिक्षा और आर्थिक आत्मनिर्भरता जैसे बड़े लक्ष्यों को नज़रअंदाज़ करता है। ऐसे समय में जब पंजाब बढ़ते कर्ज़ और वित्तीय चुनौतियों का सामना कर रहा है, एक बड़ा सवाल उठता है, क्या सरकार की महिलाओं के प्रति सोच केवल उन्हें खर्च करने योग्य बनाना है, या उन्हें कमाने योग्य बनाना ? क्या वास्तविक सशक्तिकरण नकद सहायता से आता है या ऐसे अवसरों से जो निर्भरता को ही समाप्त कर दें ?
Bhagwant Mann Government has launched the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana, with eligible women receiving ₹1,000 per month and Scheduled Caste women ₹1,500 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Calling it a "historic day", AAP leaders say the government is fulfilling another major poll promise and empowering women. Yet the promise was made before the 2022 elections, while its implementation has come after four years and four months, with the 2027 Assembly elections now approaching. If this scheme was always meant to transform the lives of Punjab's women, why did they have to wait until the Government's final year ? Does the timing strengthen the promise, or raise questions about the politics behind it ?
