पंजाब में 1 लाख 14 हज़ार हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में आलू की फ़सल उगाई जाती है जिसका उत्पादन 31 लाख टन के क़रीब है। प्रति हेक्टेयर उत्पादन लगभग 27 हज़ार किलो है, यह सीमा पार और मध्य एशिया के बाज़ार के लिए निर्यात का बहुत बड़ा अवसर है।

In the 2022 elections, Congress chose Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki by sidelining its former MLA Angad Singh Saini, who then contested as an Independent and still polled more votes. Jhikki finished far behind, with just 6,998 votes (5.65%), while Saini crossed 31,000.
2022 के चुनाव में कांग्रेस ने अपने पूर्व विधायक अंगद सिंह सैनी को दरकिनार कर सतवीर सिंह पाली झिक्की को टिकट दिया। नतीजा यह रहा कि सैनी निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार के तौर पर चुनाव लड़े और 31,000 से ज्यादा मत ले आए, जबकि झिक्की सिर्फ 6,998 मतों (5.65%) पर सिमट गए।
In the 2024 Jalandhar West bypoll, Congress tried a reset by fielding Surinder Kaur, after its 2022 candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku moved to BJP. But the result was blunt, just 16,757 votes (17.71%), as the contest turned into a straight AAP show after party-switch drama between Sheetal Angural and Mohinder Bhagat. Was Surinder Kaur’s defeat about her own limited connect or did Congress once again misread a fast-shifting seat where party loyalty now matters less than timing and momentum ? And if Congress couldn’t capitalise even when rivals were busy shifting sides, what does that say about its readiness for 2027 ?
