Sikhs make up around 57.7% of Punjab’s population, giving the Akali Dal a large voter base to fight for. But after the party’s electoral decline and the rise of other political voices, can Sukhbir Singh Badal realistically depend on Sikh support alone to make a comeback in 2027 Or does the Akali Dal still need the Hindu vote and a possible alliance with the BJP to build a winning coalition ? The bigger question is whether Sukhbir Singh Badal can rebuild the party’s Sikh support strongly enough, or whether Punjab’s electoral maths forces the Akali Dal to look beyond its traditional base ?

But with the party still struggling with factionalism, leadership disputes and internal coordination in Punjab, such confident projections raise a sharp question: Is Congress building a winning organisation, or simply announcing victories before fighting the battles ?
