The BJP insists that Narendra Modi honoured the Sahibzadas by naming December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas. But if Sikh tradition already commemorated their martyrdom in its own way, why did the Centre feel the need to rename it at all, and why ignore the directive of the Akal Takht now ? Is the BJP honouring Sikh history, or reshaping it through branding and centralised symbolism, even at the cost of Sikh institutions’ authority ?
भाजपा का कहना है कि नरेंद्र मोदी ने 26 दिसंबर को वीर बाल दिवस घोषित कर साहिबज़ादों का सम्मान किया। लेकिन अगर सिख परंपरा पहले से ही उनकी शहादत को अपने तरीके से याद करती रही है, तो फिर केंद्र को नाम बदलने की ज़रूरत क्यों पड़ी ? और अब जब अकाल तख्त ने आपत्ति जताई है, तो उसकी मर्यादा को नज़रअंदाज़ क्यों किया जा रहा है ? तो असली सवाल यह है, क्या भाजपा सिख इतिहास का सम्मान कर रही है या फिर उसे दिल्ली से तय की गई ब्रांडिंग और केंद्रीकृत प्रतीकों के ज़रिये नए रूप में पेश कर रही है, भले ही इससे सिख संस्थाओं की हैसियत कम हो ?
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced ₹1,350 Crores for revamping 3,100 stadiums, new gyms, sports kits, and youth facilities, projecting sports as the answer to Punjab’s youth crisis. But the real question is this, before announcing thousands of new stadiums, why hasn’t the Government released a list of existing stadiums lying vacant, and how many youths are actually being pulled away from drugs and unemployment, beyond photo-ops and inaugurations ? Is this a serious fight against Punjab’s drug problem or a feel-good sports narrative without hard outcomes ?
