After breaking away from the Shiromani Akali Dal and now claiming before the Election Commission to be the “real” SAD along with a demand for the traditional takdi symbol, the Punar Surjit faction has taken its political battle from the stage to the legal arena. But in a party whose identity has long been shaped by its cadre strength, electoral presence, and organisational continuity under Sukhbir Singh Badal, the sharper question is whether legitimacy can be claimed through petitions and paperwork or only through political support on the ground. Is this a genuine fight for the party’s original ideology or an attempt to gain recognition without matching the organisational strength, mass base, and electoral structure that still remain with the Sukhbir Badal- led Shiromani Akali Dal ?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Israel visit, marked by highly personal optics, political warmth, and visible proximity to the Israeli leadership during a sensitive global phase, has triggered a wider debate on diplomatic balance. At a time when many world leaders are keeping distance amid the Gaza crisis and Israel’s internal political tensions, the larger question is whether such high-visibility alignment reflects strategic confidence or risks projecting India as politically invested in one side of a complex global conflict. In diplomacy, where perception often shapes influence, is this strong leadership on the world stage or optics that may have cost India some strategic neutrality ?
