Gidderbaha was once the heartbeat of Akali politics, ruled by Parkash Singh Badal for five consecutive terms and later by Manpreet Singh Badal. But today, the seat is in the hands of AAP’s Hardeep “Dimpy” Dhillon, after SAD could not even field a candidate in the 2024 bypoll. Now, with Sukhbir Singh Badal announcing that he himself will contest from Gidderbaha, the political message is loud and clear. Is Sukhbir’s decision a bold attempt to revive the fading Badal-era legacy in a constituency that has been slipping away for nearly two decades ? Or is this the clearest sign yet that after his shockiing 30,000-vote defeat in Jalalabad in 2022, he must shift to a safer battleground just to stay politically relevant ? Will 2027 be Sukhbir Singh Badal’s defining comeback, or his last attempt to stabilise a party struggling to find its footing ?
गिद्दड़बाहा कभी अकाली राजनीति की धड़कन था, जहां प्रकाश सिंह बादल ने लगातार पाँच बार जीत हासिल की और बाद में मनप्रीत सिंह बादल ने भी इस सीट को संभाला। लेकिन आज यह सीट AAP के हरदीप “डिम्पी” ढिल्लों के पास है, क्योंकि 2024 के उपचुनाव में शिरोमणि अकाली दल (बादल) अपना उम्मीदवार भी नहीं उतार सका। अब सुखबीर सिंह बादल ने घोषणा कर दी है कि वे खुद गिद्दड़बाहा से चुनाव लड़ेंगे। सवाल यह है, क्या यह कदम उस बादल-युग की घटती विरासत को फिर जीवन देने का प्रयास है या 2022 में जलालाबाद से 30,000 से अधिक वोटों की हार के बाद उनके लिए यह “ज्यादा सुरक्षित सीट” ढूंढने की मजबूरी है ? क्या 2027 सुखबीर सिंह बादल की बड़ी वापसी होगी या पार्टी को संभालने की उनकी आखिरी कोशिश ?
Aman Arora has quietly built a reputation as one of AAP’s most polished, disciplined, and CM-like leaders, calm, articulate, and administrative-minded. Yet, his influence remains mostly limited to Sunam and parts of Sangrur. Now, as 2027 nears, AAP faces turbulence in Punjab and uncertainty over Bhagwant Mann’s long-term leadership.
