Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced ₹1,350 Crores for revamping 3,100 stadiums, new gyms, sports kits, and youth facilities, projecting sports as the answer to Punjab’s youth crisis. But the real question is this, before announcing thousands of new stadiums, why hasn’t the Government released a list of existing stadiums lying vacant, and how many youths are actually being pulled away from drugs and unemployment, beyond photo-ops and inaugurations ? Is this a serious fight against Punjab’s drug problem or a feel-good sports narrative without hard outcomes ?
पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान ने 3,100 स्टेडियमों के नवीनीकरण, नए जिम, खेल किट और युवा सुविधाओं के लिए ₹1,350 करोड़ की घोषणा की है और खेल को पंजाब के युवा संकट का समाधान बताया है। लेकिन असली सवाल यह है, हज़ारों नए स्टेडियम घोषित करने से पहले सरकार ने अब तक उन स्टेडियमों की सूची क्यों जारी नहीं की जो पहले से बने होकर भी खाली पड़े हैं ? और फोटो-ऑप्स व उद्घाटनों से आगे, वास्तव में कितने युवा नशे और बेरोज़गारी से दूर हो पाए हैं ? क्या यह पंजाब की नशा समस्या से लड़ने की ठोस कोशिश है या फिर बिना ठोस नतीजों के एक अच्छा-सा दिखने वाली खेल कथा ?
The Centre has adopted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s own Assembly segment, Dhuri, under the Aspirational Blocks Programme, soon after Mann publicly attacked the Centre’s new rural employment law and called it “anti-poor.” This raises a poking question. Is the Centre stepping in to genuinely improve services in Dhuri or is it making a political point by closely monitoring and showcasing development in the Chief Minister’s backyard ? And if Dhuri needs special hand-holding from Delhi to deliver basic services, what does that say about the State Government’s claims of strong governance across Punjab ?
