Navjot Singh Sidhu walked away from cricket commentary to enter politics in 2004, won three Lok Sabha elections (2004, 2007 by elections and 2009) as a BJP MP, switched to the Congress in 2017, became Punjab Congress president in 2021, and by 2024–26 went back doing IPL commentary as his political space shrank. Now in 2026, with his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu quitting the Congress and openly attacking its leadership, the signals are no longer subtle. Is Sidhu preparing for a full-circle return to the BJP, turning his Congress phase into a detour rather than a destination, and betting once again on visibility, rhetoric, and timing to revive his political relevance ?
After a long career as a Congress leader and three-time MLA, and serving as Punjab’s Revenue Minister under Capt Amarinder Singh before September 2021, Gurpreet Singh Kangar switched to the BJP in June 2022 with several senior Congress figures, only to return to the Congress fold later as party infighting persisted. Even now, his faction’s verbal spat with Jashan Singh Chahal’s group at a recent meeting highlighted continuing discord within the party’s ranks. With ticket decisions for 2027 looming, will these repeated party switches and the ongoing factional fights cost Kangar his claim to a ticket or might he once again look beyond the Congress if stability doesn’t come his way ?
