Punjab Congress is once again walking a familiar tightrope. Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the party has chosen not to project a Chief Ministerial face, is balancing competing power centres, and is delaying key organisational decisions in an effort to avoid internal rivalry. Yet Punjab has seen this story before. The leadership transition that sidelined Captain Amarinder Singh triggered one of the biggest upheavals in the party's history, eventually leading to his exit and further weakening the Congress before the 2022 elections. As history appears to echo itself, one question becomes unavoidable: Is the Congress learning from its past, or once again risking unity in the hope of preserving internal balance? Could the fear of choosing one leader ultimately cost the party many more?

As the Congress rewrites its political equation once again, one question remains: Has the party become too focused on electoral arithmetic and forgotten the simple political equation of earning Punjab's trust ? What should matter most for the Congress before 2027 ?
